Before learning how to treat oily skin, we first must discuss what causes it. The oil found primarily on the face is produced by glands called the sebaceous glands. As we all know the nose is a problematic area on the face, this is because the sebaceous glands are often larger in those areas. The pores around the nose are also larger because of the larger oil glands. Sebaceous glands are also found along the back, neck, and chest. Remember that you should only reduce consumption not eliminated. Toxins should also be eliminated; this includes margarine and hydrogenated fats, sugars, aspartame, mono sodium glutamate (MSG), fried foods, and alcoholic drinks. Foods which discourage oily skin are primarily organics such as vegetables.

Topical antibiotics are used in cases of mild acne. It is a cream which is applied twice a day to reduce bacteria and redness. Topical antibiotics are only available by prescription. Topical vitamin A derivatives are used to help eliminate blackheads, whiteheads and unclogging pores. This is also only available by prescription.
